I had to do an online course about seatbelts after I got a ticket for not wearing one. I think they told me the same stuff about 8 times. Forget about the fine, having to go through that was enough of a scared straight moment that I’ll never drive without my belt again.

Funny thing, though, I have been an avid seatbelt wearer all my life. I got lazy that one time, and got popped. I think the cop saw me putting it on. I didn’t know he was there until I saw him whip around the car behind me at the stop sign. I posted about it.

It could be worse. I had to an 8 hour in person course in order to drive u niversity vehicles. Even worse was that the instructor was very serious about the class. He did not appreciate my humor from the peanut gallery.

I had to do similar classes with the city and county in the past, but in those instances the usually humorous instructor was no more serious about the class than the folks who had to be there.

I have to do an annual online ethics course this week. It’s four hours long. I just started this job at the end of August and did the EXACT SAME online, four hour ethics course at the beginning of September. There are prompts you have to answer at random intervals so starting it and walking away is not an option.

Also, I have a 6 hour continuing education event tomorrow with an OSHA compliance representative.
